We believe everyone is a maker.
Fired Clay Studio is a working pottery studio and school in the historic arts district. We teach because we make. Every instructor is a working ceramicist committed to sharing the craft with people who want to try it.
Our story
Fired Clay was founded in 2018 by Emma Chen and three other working ceramicists. We wanted a space where makers could sell their work, teach, and create without compromise. The studio started in a small warehouse and grew organically as more people discovered the joy of throwing clay.
Today, we offer 12+ classes weekly, host artists-in-residence, and hold monthly open studio events. We're still artist-run. Every decision prioritizes the experience of our students and the health of our maker community.
Your instructors
15 years of studio practice. Patient, encouraging, and deeply committed to beginner confidence.
MFA in ceramics. Specializes in sculptural forms and accessible technique.
Color scientist turned ceramicist with deep knowledge of sustainable materials.
Small by design
Max 6 students per class means everyone gets attention. We're not trying to scale infinitely — we're trying to teach well.
Sustainable practice
We use low-fire and sustainable glazes, source local clay when possible, and track water usage. Good work doesn't require waste.
Community first
We host open studio hours, sell student work, and feature visiting artists. This is a space for makers to grow together.
Generosity
We believe in sharing craft knowledge. Every instructor has taught apprentices and mentors students who want to deepen their practice.
